                 1941 - 2010 Gerard D. "Jerry" Byrne, Sr. passed away at his Morgan City home at 10:20 AM on Wednesday, April 07, 2010, after a valiant three year battle with lung cancer. He was the founder and owner of Byrne Rentals and Sales. He married his wife, Gloria Rapp, and together they raised her two younger brothers after the untimely death of her parents.Jerry was a larger-than-life character, who was always the life of the party. A boisterous, generous man with a huge heart, nothing was more important to him than his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gloria Rapp, two daughters, and one son: Lisa Thibodeaux (husband Keith), Donna Vorenkamp (husband Matt), and Gerard Byrne (wife Gerrie Sauce); one brother-in-law, whom he raised: Philip Rapp (wife Debbie); nine grandchildren: Patrick Thibodeaux (wife Peggy), Rose Thibodeaux, Brittany Vorenkamp (fiancée Eric Matte), Zachary Vorenkamp, Matthew Vorenkamp, Caroline Byrne, Blake Byrne, Patrick Rapp (wife Kristen), and Robbye Rapp (wife Melissa); four great-grandchildren: Sara Thibodeaux, Philip David Rapp, Kate Rapp, and Avery Rapp; two sister-in-laws: Betty Rapp and Martha Byrne; four nieces; seven great-nieces and nephews ; faithful family friend: Dale Parker; and Ronald and Roger Guccione, whom he loved like his own sons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mayme Byrne, one brother, Charles Byrne Jr., two brother-in-laws, Charles E. Rapp and Pat Rapp, one sister-in-law, Mary Rapp, and two life-long friends, Ronald and Betty Guccione. The family expresses sincere gratitude to Father Danny Poche of Holy Cross Church and everyone at St. Joseph Hospice for their support and loving care during the last month of Jerry’s life. A celebration of Jerry's life was held on April 24, 2010.
